What We Do
MISSION: "To participate in the education of students in Central Virginia so that each child understands and believes in their potential to succeed in our free enterprise society and in life."
VISION: "JA will be the essential partner in a relationship between the educators and business leaders of Central Virginia for the benefit of all our youth."
PURPOSE: "To bring role models from our business community into the classroom to deliver educational programs about free enterprise, economics, and personal finance, enhanced by their own real world experiences."
WE DO THIS BY DEVELOPING...
- the desire in young people to stay in school and appreciate lifelong learning
- positive attitudes toward work and contributing to a diverse society
- business/education partnerships that create a bridge between the classroom and the workplace
WE ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH...
- sequential and integrated K - 12 programs
- volunteer role models of diverse backgrounds, supporting all classroom programs
- experienced-based learning
KEY PROGRAMS:
Programs span grades K - 12, with age-appropriate curricula designed to teach elementary students about their roles as individuals, workers, and consumers and to prepare middle grade and high school students for key economic and workforce issues they will face. In addition to bringing the free enterprise system to life in the classroom, Junior Achievement of Central Virginia's programs teach youngsters the importance of staying in school. We also offer programs for young people who may have difficulty graduating from high school.
PROVEN SUCCESS
From 1993-1999, the Western Institute for Research and Evaluation (WIRE) has conducted a comprehensive evaluation of Junior Achievement's Elementary School Program. Results show that JA's impact on student achievement has been consistent and significant.
